#009 Danny Cipriani
Thursday May 10, 2018
Thursday May 10, 2018
This link up has been a long time coming. Danny messaged me at the back end of last year talking about what he had been through in his young 20’s and the perspectives he has taken now to help him manage his life on and off the field. I came back to him with a lot of similar progressions and viewpoints and it’s crazy to see how similar we both look at things now that can help out performance on the field but also our lives. Danny was keen for us to get something done around mental health and self awareness, so we finally found the time to sit down and have a chat after I got to a Wasps home game and crashed a team night out. Danny has just made the England squad to tour South Africa in June and it’s been a long time coming. All of which we discuss in this podcast. Which could be one of the best ones yet... Most certainly a personal favourite.
We talk about presence, journaling, Jim Carrey, mentors, and identity as a rugby player.
Enjoy, and stay present!

Thursday Mar 01, 2018
Thursday Mar 01, 2018
Brian Wood MC joins us on the Mantality podcast. During a 16 year military career, Brian led British troops across the full spectrum of battle from training to fighting; from operations in the Balkans to high intensity combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. Brian was awarded the Military Cross, one of Britain’s highest awards for gallantry in combat, by Her Majesty The Queen II, following his courageous leadership under enemy fire in Iraq. We go in to depth about the Battle of Danny Boy. Brian lead his men into the teeth of enemy fire in the first bayonet charge by British soldiers in 25 years. We talk about his struggle to transition in to civilian life but also how he coped with the public enquiry carried out by disgraced and discredited lawyer Phil Shiner, who was wrongly accusing Brian and his comrades of murder and mutilation of Iraqi militia fighters. Brian is a leader of men, and is now taking his inspiration to the corporate world. This is a real, no holds barred account of a heroes last 20 years and how he has come through the other side.

#004 Becoming A Liquid Thinker (with Damian Hughes)
Wednesday Nov 08, 2017
Wednesday Nov 08, 2017
Professor Damian Hughes is an international speaker and best-selling author. His innovative approach has been praised by Sir Richard Branson, Muhammed Ali, Tiger Woods and Sir Alex Ferguson. He combines his practical and academic background within sport, organisational development and change psychology, to help organisations and teams to create a high performing culture.
I met Damian after he was a guest speaker at an England rugby league meeting. What I found intriguing was how Damian mapped out the different types of human brain processes. Listening to this podcast, you can understand why we do what we do, and what part of the brain it is which dictates that. The big statement to come from this chat was ‘thinking about thinking’. I think once you can become aware of many of our innate and learnt reactions, you are in a powerful position to change your life, working environment and personal relationships.
Damian is author of seven best-selling books including 'Liquid Thinking' and 'The Five STEPS to a winning mind-set'. He is currently serving as a member of the Scotland rugby union team and was appointed as Professor of Organisational Psychology and Change for Manchester Metropolitan University in September 2010.

The guest for this podcast challenges where the limit is for human potential. Wim Hof holds 21 Guinness World Records, all of these being things which we presumed to be impossible for a human to achieve. The iceman is renowned for his ability to withstand extreme cold but he also has proven the ability to control his autonomic nervous system, through conscious breathing. We discuss everything for how he has built up this freakish ability and for how you can do it too through The Wim Hof Method. Wim commends the Mantality movement on this podcast and he has his own motivations to why he is sought after a cure for depression. This stems from his wife taking her own life years ago and we come up with quite a resounding message for what listeners should do next!

In this episode of the podcast, Stevie Ward speaks to a former rival on the rugby field, Paul Wood, and ex British Lions Head of Strength and conditioning, Craig White.
Craig White suffered a 'mid life mystery' when returning from a month’s yoga retreat to his job at Wales rugby union. We discuss what his actions were when he first felt a crisis of identity and absence of enjoyment and fulfilment from the ‘win at all costs’ mentality. Craig White now leads men through these experiences and runs retreats around the world (craigwhitecoaching.com). Paul Wood opens up about dealing with depression for the majority of his professional rugby career and how adopting a spiritual side to life has helped him to be the happiest he has ever been. He is now the Head conditioner at Leigh Centurions rugby league club.
